Guide
An overview of KnitSnap's main features and how to use them.
1. Getting Started
When you launch the app for the first time, a short onboarding screen appears. After granting camera and photo library permissions, you can use all features.
2. Creating a Project
Tap the "+" button on the Home tab to create a new project. You can record the following information:
- Project name
- Needle type and size
- Pattern name / designer
- Yarn details (brand, color, etc.)
- Notes
3. Taking Photos
The Camera tab provides an inline camera.
- Zoom: Pinch the screen or use the zoom buttons at the bottom.
- Flash: Toggle between auto / on / off using the top icon.
- Aspect Ratio: Choose between 4:3, 1:1, and 16:9.
- Focus / Exposure: Tap the screen to set focus and adjust exposure.
4. Importing Photos
To link existing photos to a project, tap "Import Photos" and pick the photos you want from the Photos app.
5. Editing Overlays
When you select a photo, the overlay editor opens. You can compose project information as a text overlay on the photo.
- Choose which items to display (project name, needles, pattern, yarn, timestamp).
- Adjust the text color and position.
- Tap "Save" and the composed photo is saved to the iOS Photos app.
6. Full-Screen Viewer
Tapping a photo in the project detail opens the full-screen viewer. You can zoom in / out, change the linked project, and remove photo records.
7. Managing Projects
- Status: Each project can be in one of several states — Not started / In progress / Hibernating / Completed. The Home screen highlights in-progress projects first, and the "All Projects" screen lets you filter by status.
- Favorites: Swipe a project row slightly to the right to reveal the star toggle. Favorited projects appear in a dedicated section at the top of the Home screen.
- Delete / Trash: Swipe a project row to the left to delete it. Deleted projects are not gone immediately — they move to the Trash and are kept for a limited period. You can restore them or permanently delete them from Settings → Trash.
8. All Photos
Below the recent-photos strip on the Home screen, tap "View all" to see every photo in a grid. Each photo shows which project it belongs to along with its capture date. You can multi-select to delete them in bulk or move them to another project.
9. Settings
- Storage Optimization: When enabled, large photos are downsampled to 2048px before saving. This reduces storage use with a slight reduction in quality.
- Remove Ads (In-App Purchase): One-time purchase that permanently removes all banner ads from the app. You can restore the purchase on other devices signed in with the same Apple ID using the "Restore Purchases" button.
- Support the Developer (Watch an Ad): Separate from the Remove Ads purchase, this option lets you voluntarily watch a rewarded ad to support development. It only starts when you explicitly tap the watch button — it is never shown automatically.
- Trash: Deleted projects and photos are kept here for a limited period. You can restore items that were deleted by mistake, or permanently remove them right away.
- Change Language: Switch the app language between Korean and English in iOS Settings.
- Reset Data: Deletes all project data. (Photos saved in the Photos app are not affected.)
